Part 43

NKJ Genesis 4:3-5
3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD.
4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,
5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

Genesis 4:6-7
6 So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?
7 "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."

I hope you get as much out of this message from the Lord as I did!

Genesis 4:5
but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

Again, God did not “respect” Cain’s offering in the sense that He would have gazed at it steadily with interest prior to having consumed it by sending fire from heaven; which in the instance with Cain, God did not do.

5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

And Cain exceedingly burned with anger,

Hebrew for to burn with anger khah-rah’ to burn, to be kindled, of anger

Jonah 3:4-5
And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk. Then he cried out and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!" 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.

Jonah 3:10
Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.

Jonah 4:4
The LORD said, "Do you have good reason to be angry?"

God also attempted to reason with Jonah by asking him if he thought he was justified in burning with anger about God having temporarily saved Nineveh.

And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!"

Jonah 4:9
Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry (burn with anger) about the plant?"

Genesis 4:7
"If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."

Let’s see what this text really has to say…

If you deal well (hiphil) with (a person, God implied), will you not be lifted up?

Hebrew for To lift or carry to lift up, to carry

NASA to lift up, to take up, to carry. They missed the true essence of the word.

Deeper…

Abstract: refuge, tells us the class of the word, how to treat it.

This is an instance of the class: refuge.

Hebrew for To lift or carry to lift up, to carry

Ancient hebrew pictograph for nasa To lift seed sprout- continuance.. thorn bush- representing the idea of tenaciously grabbing hold of “to continue to grab hold of”

Action: to lift

Concrete: a standard

Abstract: refuge

The reference is to the tenacity of the tribal acceptance, which is represented visually by the tribal banner as it is prominently positioned horizontally, high up over the camp, a strong symbol of the security enjoyed by those rightfully included under the covenant grace and authority,
“a refuge” able to be seen from a far off distance.

The whole word Complete Ancient hebrew Pictograph for to lift up simply adds emphasis to the notion of being lifted up unto refuge in this manner, and to the strength  of the officiousness of the idea.

This word denotes a very gracious acceptance by Yahweh, the covenant-keeping Lord; especially in the manner in which He cares for those who belong to Him; He guards and defends them under the banner of His refuge.

NKJ Psalm 145:14
The LORD upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down.

a bean- in Hebrew is named for its bent in a bowed down shape .

Genesis 4:7
“…if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Let’s first consider our own impression of the implication to be drawn from the meaning of this NKJ translation.

If the animal figure is intended to represent the idea of sin, half-hidden, crouched in ambush, ready to pounce and overtake its prey; the meaning would imply that fallen man is charged by God with the responsibility and capacity to overcome the power of sin at will, out from
his own strength and determination to do the right thing.

Genesis 4:7
“…if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Here is what it really says…

And if you do not deal well with a person, a sin-offering being a stretched-out animal in repose, is at the door to the place of offering.

And if you do not deal well (hiphil- causative active) with a person (God implied),

a sin-offering (Hebrew for Sin Offering n.f. sin, a sin-offering) being a stretched-out (domestic) animal in repose, is at the door (entrance) to the place of offering (the sacred tent or temple).

This is a legitimate figure where “sin” is put for “the offering for sin.”

This style expression is certainly not unique to our verse…

Actually, the primary meaning of Hebrew for Sin Offeringis sin-offering, and the secondary is sin; in the sense that the sin-offering becomes the sin for which atonement is made.

Abstract: miss, tells us the class of the word, how to treat it.

This is an instance of the class: miss.

Hebrew for To Sin or Miss kha-tah' Meaning: to sin, miss the way, incur guilt

We’re on our own to make the connection…

Root: Ancient Hebrew Pitograph for Sin

a wall- separation, outside/inside
a container- of storage

Action: to measure
Concrete: a cord
Abstract: miss

the contents of measurement cords, collection of misses, degree of separation

Cord are used to bind and to measure. Ancient Hebrew Pictograph for To Sin To Incur Guilt

As a measuring device, knots were placed incrementally along the cord; when shooting targets, the distance of the miss was measured by a cord, just as wrong actions are measured against the correct action.

Hebrew for To Sin or Miss kha-tah' Meaning: to sin, miss the way, incur guilt Ancient Hebrew Pictograph for To Sin To Incur Guilt

To sin is to add to the collection of misses (record of knotty cords) in your invisible, but real, basket.

At time moment before the atoning sacrificial animal was killed, those sins and the guilt of them were transferred by being laid upon the sacrifice, and the animal in the sense of retaining the collection of misses, became sin in behalf of the one making the offering.

What ordinary man could ever have seen the transfer of sin and guilt (misses) to the sacrifice actually take place?

None!

The belief and practice of atoning sacrifice has always been a manner of faith, that God does what He promises, and that He can be trusted to provide an acceptable sin-offering.

Hebrew for Sin Offeringkhat-tawth' Meaning: sin-offering

This word denotes the sin-offering, which by transference becomes the sin in behalf of the one for which an atonement is made.

NKJ Leviticus 6:25

NKJ Leviticus 6:25

Hebrew for Sin Offeringkhat-tawth' Meaning: sin-offering, sin

The primary meaning of this word is sin-offering.

NKJ Numbers 8:8
"Then let them take a young bull with its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you shall take another young bull as a sin offering.

Hebrew for Sin Offeringkhat-tawth' Meaning: sin-offering, sin

Young's Literal Translation

Is there not, if thou dost well, acceptance? and if thou dost not well, at the opening a sin-offering is crouching, and unto thee its desire,
and thou rulest over it.'

Matthew Henry Commentary

In all ages there have been two sorts of worshippers, such as Cain and Abel; namely, proud, hardened despisers of the gospel method of salvation, who attempt to please God in ways of their own devising; and humble believers, who draw near to him in the way he has revealed.

If thou doest not well, sin, that is, the sin-offering, lies at the door, and thou mayest take the benefit of it.

The same word signifies sin, and a sacrifice for sin. Though thou hast not done well, yet do not despair; the remedy is at hand.

And those well deserve to perish in their sins, that will not go to the door to ask for the benefit of this sin-offering.

3rd person sigular Greek for To make to do verb indicative aorist active 3rd person singular

Greek for To make to do to make, to do, to cause, to effect, to bring about, to accomplish, to perform, to provide

…in our behalf He provided a sin-offering,

Christ was the marker to whom was transferred the entire contents of our collective sins, the substitute who took our place to pay the debt of unrighteousness, on the cross.

And toward you is her longing (just as Eve toward Adam after the curse),

but you (for emphasis) will over-rule in (only of position) it (or her, sin- offering antecedent).

What does this mean?

Cain will always be inclined to take the position of dominion over the means of atonement provided for by God, and superimpose his own desire over the desire of the sin-offering (the longing to provide sin atonement).

Cain in his present unrepentant state, shall continue to exercise the fleshly prerogative out from within his own will, always determined to over-rule and not give proper place to God’s appointed sin-offering for atonement of his sin.

Basically, this conversation with God proved fruitless.

You can reason with a person of rage, when they realize the inappropriateness of their rage; but, not so with sons of Satan.

As the result, Cain continued in his great disappointment; and by refusing to look at the circumstances from Yahweh’s point of view, the fallen soul of Cain collaborated with his fallen mental faculty, and hatched a twisted logic that he then used to inform his conscience, that he had been personally wronged on several levels, and that someone else would have to suffer for making him suffer personal grief and un-comfort, thereby causing great injury to his pride.

See how subtle the idea and the twisted logic of those who belong to the Devil.

Cain and all those like him, do not hesitate to place themselves in the class of God, so that they see themselves as instances of God; therefore, they are justified in bringing death to those who would dare to come against them.

For a brief time, Jonah, like Peter, became instances of Satan by their actions, but were never really sons of Satan.

Not so with Cain…

So, Cain burned from within, so hotly with a fire of anger that would not easily be quenched, nor subdued even by holy reasoning from God.

Knowing he stood no chance of coming directly against his enemy, God; he took violent action against his brother out of the rage that gripped him relentlessly.

Vengeance would soon be his, and the burning rage would find its acceptable victim, and be satisfied.

The lesson for those who have the ears to hear it, is…

Salvation is at hand!

Receive the One whose name is Jesus, the Christ, the acceptable-sin-offering who tarries with you at the entrance to a place of communion with God, and you will be lifted up to abide forever safe in His refuge, under His banner of love and grace, and the princes of darkness will see the banner from afar and be afraid.

AMEN
